AI-Assistance Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
I use AI tools to help make this site, and I’d rather tell you that plainly than let you wonder.
What AI actually does here
It helps me research — pulling together vendor documentation, security bulletins, and government guidance faster than I could by hand. It helps me outline, suggests wording when a paragraph won’t come together, catches clumsy sentences, and handles some routine site maintenance.
That’s assistance with the work. It isn’t the work.
What it doesn’t do
AI doesn’t decide what I cover or what I recommend. It doesn’t get to tell you a product is worth buying.
It never invents a personal story. When I write that I’ve seen something fail, or that I’ve run a setting a certain way for years, that happened — those parts come from three decades in IT, including 23 years supporting a university law school, and I don’t hand that over to a machine.
It never generates a screenshot. If you see a settings menu on this site, that’s a real screen capture from a real device.
And it never gets the last word on a fact. Every claim involving a version number, a price, a date, or a settings path gets checked against the primary source and linked, so you can go look for yourself.
Who’s responsible
Me. Don Castle.
I read every article line by line before it publishes, and I’m accountable for what’s in it. Not the tools, not a workflow — me. If something here is wrong, that’s mine to fix.
When something’s wrong
Tell me and I’ll correct it. I date every article, and when I revise one substantially I note it at the top rather than quietly editing a mistake and pretending it didn’t happen. The Corrections Policy explains how to flag something.
