At Digital Life Compass, accessible from digitallifecompass.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy explains what information this site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have over it.
1. Log Files & Cookies
Digital Life Compass follows a standard procedure of using log files and cookies. These files log visitors when they visit websites. The information collected includes IP addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date/time stamps, and page interactions. We use this information to analyze trends, administer the site, and customize our web page content based on visitors' browser type or other information.
2. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to monitor and analyze web traffic and user behavior. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect data about how you use our site. This information is used to improve the user experience and site performance. You can opt-out of having your activity available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
3. Advertising & Personalized Cookies
This site participates in Google AdSense. Google is a third-party vendor on our site. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
Google uses advertising cookies, including the DART cookie, to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie and other personalized advertising by visiting the Google advertising and privacy policy. Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and use their own cookies; this site does not control those cookies, and you should consult each vendor's own privacy policy.
Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info, or the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page at optout.networkadvertising.org.
4. Third-Party Privacy Policies
Digital Life Compass's Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. We advise you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt-out of certain options.
5. Contact Form, Email & Spam Protection
If you use the contact form (powered by Gravity Forms), the details you submit — name, email address, phone number, and message — are emailed to don@digitallifecompass.com and stored on this website so I can respond. This information is used only to reply to you and is never sold or shared for marketing. Form submissions are automatically screened for spam by Akismet, a service from Automattic; you can read how Akismet handles data in Akismet’s privacy notes.
6. Embedded Content
Some articles may include embedded content (for example, videos). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website, and those services may collect data about you and set their own cookies.
7. Hosting & Platform Scripts (GoDaddy)
This website is hosted on GoDaddy Managed WordPress. GoDaddy loads a small traffic-and-performance script on each page that collects anonymous usage data (such as page views and load times) to power hosting analytics — see GoDaddy’s Privacy Policy. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts servers, which receive your device’s IP address when the font files are requested; the fonts themselves set no cookies.
8. Children's Information
Protection for children using the internet is a priority. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor their online activity. Digital Life Compass does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, contact don@digitallifecompass.com and it will be deleted.
9. Online Privacy Policy Only
This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in Digital Life Compass. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.
10. Your Choices
You can control the data this site and its third-party vendors collect in several ways: most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings; the Google Analytics opt-out add-on stops analytics collection; and the advertising opt-out links in Section 3 turn off personalized ads. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of this or other websites function.
11. Your Rights Under the GDPR (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights over your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation and equivalent UK and Swiss law.
Lawful bases. This site processes personal data on two bases. Where you contact me through the contact form, processing is based on your consent and on the legitimate interest of responding to your message. Where cookies are used for analytics and advertising, processing is based on your consent.
Your rights. You have the right to request access to the personal data held about you; to request correction of inaccurate data; to request erasure of your data; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out. Withdrawing consent for advertising or analytics cookies does not affect your ability to read this site.
How to exercise them. Email don@digitallifecompass.com with your request. I will respond within one month, as the GDPR requires. There is no charge for making a request.
Complaints. If you believe your data has been handled improperly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EEA, the supervisory authority for your country.
12. Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you specific rights over your personal information.
What is collected. This site collects identifiers (such as IP address), internet activity information (such as pages viewed and time on site), and, if you use the contact form, the name, email address, phone number, and message you submit.
Sale and sharing. Digital Life Compass does not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies described in Section 3 may qualify as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out of this by using the advertising opt-out controls listed in Section 3, or by enabling a browser-based opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control (GPC). Advertising vendors that receive a GPC signal are required to treat it as a valid opt-out request under California law.
Your rights. You have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used; to request deletion of your personal information; to request correction of inaccurate information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information; and to not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. Exercising them will not change your access to this site.
How to exercise them. Email don@digitallifecompass.com. I may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, which for most visitors means confirming the request from the email address involved.
13. Data Retention
Contact form submissions are retained in this site's database and in email so I can maintain a record of correspondence, and are deleted on request. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics. Server log files are retained by the hosting provider under its own retention schedule. Advertising cookie data is retained by Google and other vendors under their own policies, not mine.
14. International Data Transfers
This website is hosted in the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, the information described in this policy is transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection law differs from that in your country. Third-party services used by this site, including Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and Akismet, may also process data in the United States and other countries under their own transfer safeguards.
15. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated as the site changes or as legal requirements change. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted on the page rather than made silently.
