If something here didn’t make sense, or you’ve got a question I haven’t answered yet, write to me. I read everything that comes in.
What I’ll respond to
Questions about something I’ve written — including “I tried this and it didn’t work.” Those are the most useful messages I get, because they usually mean the article wasn’t clear enough, and I’d rather fix it than leave it sitting there.
Topic suggestions. If you’ve been putting off dealing with something technical because nobody explains it in plain English, tell me. That’s honestly how most of this site’s topic list gets built.
What I can’t do
I can’t troubleshoot your specific device over email, and I’d be doing you a disservice if I pretended otherwise. For anything urgent — an account you think has been compromised, a device behaving badly — start with the vendor’s official support channel. I’ll still answer, but I’m one person, and I don’t want you waiting on me while something is actively going wrong.
If I got something wrong
Tell me, and that jumps the queue. The Corrections Policy covers what happens next — short version: I fix it, I date the fix, and I don’t quietly edit it and pretend nothing happened.
Response time
Usually 24 to 48 hours. If it’s been longer, there’s a decent chance a spam filter ate your message — email me directly rather than assuming I ignored you.
What happens to what you send
Nothing surprising. There’s no mailing list to add you to, and I don’t share what you write me. If you tell me about a problem and I turn it into an article, it’ll be the problem I write about, not you.
